Agreement

By using ChirpChirps you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app. You must be at least 18 years old to use ChirpChirps.

What ChirpChirps is

ChirpChirps is peer-to-peer communication software. Your voice, messages, and shared media travel directly between nearby devices over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. We operate no servers, hold no accounts, and cannot see, store, or recover anything you transmit.

Ground rules

You agree not to use ChirpChirps to:

• harass, threaten, or abuse other people;
• transmit content that is unlawful, or that sexualizes or endangers minors;
• impersonate another person or misrepresent who is speaking;
• interfere with or disrupt other users' devices or connections;
• violate any applicable law, including radio and communications regulations in your country.

Moderation and zero tolerance

There is zero tolerance for objectionable content and for abusive users. Harassment, threats, hate speech, sexual content involving minors, and content that is unlawful have no place on ChirpChirps. There is no warning system and no grace period.

Because there are no servers and no accounts, moderation happens on your device, and it is immediate rather than pending someone else's decision:

• Blocking. You can block any peer from a map pin, from any peer list, and from the sender of any message or push-to-talk transmission. A block takes effect at once and is permanent until you undo it. It is keyed to that device's cryptographic identity, not to the name they display, so a blocked person cannot return by renaming themselves. Everything of theirs is dropped on arrival: voice, messages, and position. They never receive your position again. The blocked person cannot undo it or appeal it to us, because the block lives on your device.
• Reporting. You can report a peer from the same place you block them. Reporting blocks them and sends the report to support@chirpchirps.com with the reported device's identity fingerprint. Reports are reviewed, and acted on, within 24 hours.
• Filtering. Incoming messages are screened on your device for objectionable language and hidden behind a tap if they match. This is on by default and can be switched off in Settings.

Where a reported user can be identified, we act to the fullest extent available to us, including removing their access to the app and cooperating with law enforcement. Content that violates these terms may lead us to cooperate with law enforcement to the extent we are able.

Location sharing

Sharing your location is optional and entirely manual, and you are asked twice before it ever happens. The first time you tap Check In, iOS asks whether ChirpChirps may use your location at all, and you may decline. Then, every single time you tap Check In, ChirpChirps asks whether to show your position to nearby peers, and Don't Share is always there next to Share. Declining either question leaves you off the map and the rest of the app works normally.

A session lasts 15 minutes and then stops on its own; you can stop it sooner at any time, and it also stops when you leave the app. There is no automatic check-in, no background sharing, no setting that shares continuously, and nothing that resumes sharing for you. Your answer is never remembered: reopening the app always begins with you off the map. Your position goes directly to nearby devices and never to us, and it is encrypted separately for each person entitled to see it, so a blocked peer cannot read it even if their device helps relay it.

Do not share your location with people you do not trust, and remember that anyone who can see your position can see roughly where you are in the physical world. If someone misuses it, block them: a blocked peer is dropped on your device entirely, including their position on your map, and you can report them from inside the app.

Your content

Everything you transmit is yours and remains on the devices that receive it. You are solely responsible for what you send. Because delivery is device-to-device, we cannot delete content from other people's devices after you send it.

Safety

ChirpChirps is not a substitute for emergency services and must not be relied on for life-safety communication. Range, delivery, and audio quality depend on radio conditions, device placement, and the presence of other devices, none of which we control.

Disclaimer and limitation of liability

ChirpChirps is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app — including failed or delayed message delivery and the conduct of other users.

Changes

We may update these terms; the current version always lives at this page. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
